Jesus said that he was not of this world, which being God is understandable. But then he said that we are not of this world either (John 17:16). What should it look like to be not of this world? Witness Lee said that Jesus was divine and became human while we are human but become divine as the Spirit of God enters into us (John 14:23). Lee also teaches that God’s purpose for our salvation is to fully express God’s divinity within us (Ephesians 4:13) and to represent him perfectly to the world (Matthew 5:48).
If it is true that we are to fully express the Holy Spirit within us and represent him to the world, then it is understandable that we too should appear to be not of this world.
It is also imperative that the companies we are building are also not of this world. Consider this.
The Greek word used in the Bible for “world,” as in, “For God so loved the world…” is the word “cosmos.”
This word cosmos refers to the heavenly bodies, but it also refers to all worldly affairs and all our activities and creations. Sounds all inclusive.
When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, the all-inclusive cosmos were given over to satan and the cosmos are still under his governance today (Ephesians 2:2).
In the famous conversation between Jesus and satan, satan told Jesus that he would give him all the kingdoms of this world (cosmos) if Jesus would bow his knee before him. The kingdoms of the world (the cosmos) were evidently his to give and Jesus did not say otherwise.
An important detail of our salvation is that the Holy Spirit gives us the choice to function in the Spirit or to function in the flesh just as unbelievers do. This means that we have the same ability to build things (relationships, companies etc.) that are of the cosmos just as those who oppose God do. But more importantly, we have the unique ability to build things in the Spirit unlike those who are not in Christ.
To not forfeit this supernatural advantage, it is exceedingly important that whatever a Christian builds is built in the Spirit and not in the flesh, or cosmos, since anything established in the cosmos is under satan’s control to influence, limit or corrupt, but anything established and maintained in the Spirit is free of satan’s control. This is a great gift when we understand it and are willing to receive it.
Satan does not care what a Christian builds as long as it is established in the flesh, or the cosmos, and he himself can influence or corrupt its results.
What would it look like to build a company that is not of this world? How would decisions be made, what would the culture be like and how different would the results look?
Building a company in the Spirit is no different than living, or building, a life in the Spirit.
To do so, we must first understand life in the Spirit and what it means to remain in the Spirit and how to teach our leaders to do the same so nothing we create or build can be touched by the enemy.
